ArchWiki は、アクセスレベルとユーザーロールを独立して定義するために、2種類の グループ を区別します。他の MediaWiki プロジェクトで広く使われている慣習 (それぞれのロールは権利を持ったグループで表現される) と比較すると、このアプローチはより柔軟で、ロールにかかわらずにそれぞれのユーザーにアクセスレベルを細かく設定することができます。
アクセスレベル
アクセスレベルは空でない許可された権利を持ったグループです。その目的は、wiki 内でユーザーが持つ 許可 の範囲を定義することです。
次のアクセスレベルは MediaWiki によって自動で付与されます。
- 登録利用者 は全てのユーザーのデフォルトのグループです。基本的な読み/書きが許可されています。
- 自動承認された利用者 は最低20編集以上かつアカウント作成から3日以上経過したユーザーのためのグループです [1]。その閾値に達するまでは、スパム攻撃を防ぐためにユーザーの行動は制限されます。

ロール
Roles are groups with an empty set of granted rights: their purpose is to clarify the function of wiki users within the Arch community. In general, roles are not removed from users who may become inactive. The Administrators reserve the right to make per-user variations to the default access levels for each role.
- メンテナ (maintainer) is a group for the ArchWiki:メンテナンスチーム members.
- All maintainers are given the cosysop access level by default. Maintainers with the sysop access level are called Administrators. There is also an ⧼group-administrator_fellow⧽ (administrator_fellow) group for retired Administrators.
- ⧼group-translator⧽ (translator) is a group for the most productive members of an ArchWiki 翻訳チーム or individual translators.
- ⧼group-archdev⧽ (archdev) is a group for Arch Developers.
- All ⧼group-archdev⧽ are given the privileged access level by default.
- ⧼group-archtu⧽ (archtu) is a group for Arch Trusted Users.
- ⧼group-archstaff⧽ (archstaff) is a group for users with other en:roles within the Arch Linux community.
